Mercury 1949 - 51 custom & mild custom galerie

I have A Chopped 1949 Mercury sitting on a 70's gm chassis. She has a Built 455 olds motor with a turbo 400. This motor will roast the tires right off the rims. Transmission was just rebuilt by a professional shop. Brand new Accuair leveling air ride. Brand new Tires. Brand new front disk brake rotors, Brakes have completely been gone thru. Brakes will throw you thru the front window she stops that well.
She was Professionally painted a month ago. The paint is a solid lite green. Body is super straight. Gaps are perfect. A few flaws, but looks amazing.( 2 little chips buy the hood.) Headlights Frenched, stock tail lights lowered, Desoto grill, gas tank filler in the trunk, steel fender skirts, Chop was done by Matt Townsend of Townsend customs and Hotrods. Hands Down one of the best chops I've ever seen on a merc. The flow and proportions are perfect. The window trim was made from brass, then show chromed. All of the stainless on the car was fully polished. All glass is in the car. The passenger door and rear quarter window glass is cracked due to improper installation.
She will need interior redone. The front seats are 66 impala buckets, original real seat. I have door panels that are red that match the rear seat. I have all headliner bows. the whole car is dynomatted. will need the trunk latch installed.
Shes not perfect yet but not far off. All the hard work is done. This car has been driving all over the California before painted. She Cruises down the road perfect.

According to research and interviews with family we've determined this car was built in the early 80's by Bob Nitti of Jersey City, New Jersey in a traditional "Jersey Style" with a 5.5 inch chop in the front and 7.5 inch top in the rear and lowered 5 inches. The extended rear quarters end with a 56 Nomad Shaved Bumper and Packard Tail Lights. Front end features a shaved front bumper with 53 Mercury Bullets which Protect a 53 Corvette Grill. 57 Lincoln Headlights are "Frenched" and placed on angles along with 59 Cadillac front turn signals.

Handmade Bubble Skirts, Dummy Lake Pipes and 51 Olds Side Trim accent the side profile of the car. The original front end appears to have been upgraded with 80's era GM components, a latter model GM rear and powered by a Corvette 350 Motor , Turbo 350 Transmission and features Period Air Conditioning-which blows cold-along with Power Steering and Power Brakes with Disc Brakes Up Front and Drums In the Rear. The interior features traditional tuck and roll upholstery, electric windows and Vintique style gauges. This car is reported to have won 100 "Best Of Awards" between 1990 and 2010 and captured a Top Award at the James Dean Run Rebel Run in the 90's according to magazine articles we referenced from 1997.

It appears the car-known as "Dragon Lady" has had 2 or 3 owners since built in 1983 and accumulated 14,500 miles since completion. The recently deceased owner regularly drove this car to meets in the Carolinas, Florida and Pennsylvania. .This car was well known in the DC/Metro area. The last owner suffered from Dementia since 2010 and the car has seen little use in the last 5 years. The car presently runs and drives out with all operating gauges and lights. One electric door popper on the passenger door is not operational and the rear trunk lock/popper is not functional so the rear trunk lid stays closed by it's own weight.. The rear trunk latch is in a plastic bag in the trunk. The choke on the carburetor is not working. Car warms up in 5 minutes when you manually apply the choke and runs well once warmed up-however it does have a bit of a flat spot coming off idle and I would recommend rebuilding the carburetor, flushing all fluids and checking all systems since the car has seen limited use recently.. We drained the old fuel out of the car, charged the battery and it started right up. The paint and body work is absolutely fantastic for a car which was built 30 years ago. It is hard to believe the car was built 30+ years ago. Examination of the underside of the car shows the car to have been a nice rust free car to start with featuring solid floors and rockers etc.. Previous owner fitted the wide Cragar Mags on the car and they will touch edge of front fender lips if absolutely locked at end of steering wheel limits. The car is garaged 20 miles west of D.C. and can be seen by appointment by contacting the Auctioneer representing the Estate. Car will convey with clear Virginia title.

1951 full custom chopped, channeled convertible. 49 dash air bag ride, 2 removable carson tops (convertible&boot) both Mercedes cloth. Leopard upholstery and carpeted leopard interior in the trunk. 460 c-6 transmission, 10 RR, fat man front end/disc. Mallory ignition, 3in dual exhaust, all rewired. 56 Cadillac bumpers, 54 Buick headlights, and Nash grill. Shaved doors and emblems. Frenched skulls in the front and in rear plate frame light up. Fender skirts, 1930's rear truck taillights. Stretched 16in trunk, no backseat. Stretched 1936 auburn boat-tail rear tails, all metal work. Cadillac air breather, rein-enforced frame rails, Lincoln rear window, Satin black with gloss flames. Sound system with amp, and 10in woofer in the rear convertible boot cover, Dual batteries and custom gas tank. I've own this car for 10 years and did all the custom work myself. Here is Ernie Roth's "Low and Lovely" 51 Merc. This was 1985 in Springfield Ohio. The car was previously featured in Classic and Custom magazine. The car as it was pictured here was just painted by the great Joe Maneri of Long Island New York.

1950 custom Mercury. It was custom built by a popular old school customizer in Washington State and has a lot of custom options. It has a Three speed manual with a SBC 327 with dual AFB carbs. The body is totally custom with Frenched headlights, tail lights and antenna. In true tail dragger style the rear has been lowered a little than the front and gives a mean stance as it cruises down the street. you can see in the pic the custom Desoto grill up front and old school flame job that reminds everyone of the fifties. the battery is mounted in the truck to give a clean appearance under the hood where the engine is newer but looks older with custom valve covers and air cleaner. the motor has about 30000 miles on it and runs very smooth. the tires have lots of life on them as well. The interior is red/ maroon color some might call it a blood color and has no tears or stains. This Merc has been in Numerous Magazines and won best of shows to many times to remember and is a head turner everywhere it goes.

Beautifully customized 1950 Mercury Coupe. This very nice car has a low mileage Small Block Chevy 350 and 350 Turbo Automatic Transmission; 9” Ford Rear End with 3.25 Gears. It runs and drives very nice for a 65 year old car and has won many trophies over the years. You definitely could not build anything comparable for this price. It has been doing more sitting than driving over the last couple of years, but has been started and driven regularly to keep it sound. It still starts right up and is ready for its next adventure every time.

Exterior: Paint is Candy Brandy Wine Base Coat Clear Coat with a Metallic Silver insert on both sides. Will need some refreshing mainly from age nothing major.

Customized with Buick side trim, Corvette tail lights, DeSoto grill; frenched headed lights, frenched power antenna, shaved hood with radius front hood corners, shaved door handles, power trunk button.

Newer door gaskets. All Chrome and Stainless is in really nice shape. Windshield glass, door glass, and rear quarter glass are all very good and have new rubber seals and felts. Almost new radial tires with front Cadillac hub caps and rear Mercury hub caps. It has after-market air conditioning that needs to be charged with R-12 Freon.

Interior: Rolled and pleated tan saddle seats, door panels, and head liner. Like new carpet inside car and in trunk.
