Mercury 1949 - 51 custom & mild custom galerie

"Potion" radical 1951 Mercury built 25+ years ago by Gary Chopit features extended quarters to house 56 Packard tail lights, 57 Cadillac rear bumper, steel bubble skirts, and a functioning convertible chop top.

Body: nosed, decked, shaved, and frenched. Painted with a 1990 Chrysler red inferno metallic. Drive line:  Chevy 454 bored to .060 with mild cam, turbo 350 trans, ford 9" rear end with 350 gears. Suspension: 

Front - Aerostar springs with new shocks. Rear - 4" blocks with new shocks.  

Other: Buick front grill, brand spanking new Hooten tires radial fat white walls, rims have spider caps and beauty rings, new gas tank, 23" double bend Lokar shifter, new exhaust - straight pipes with 8" cherry bombs and pencil tips, and custom pinstriping.  

This Merc turns tons of heads and gets the thumbs up every where you go. Things that need work are the interior. It is in good shape but was redone cheaply. It's great for those looking drive this a lot and good enough for shows but not the best thing about the car. The passenger side front window is cracked but still rolls up and down with no issues. Gauges need to be redone. The oil, volt meter work but the odometer and gas gauge do not work.

custom Built 1951/50 Mercury 2 Door Hardtop built on a 1981 Lincoln Town Car Chassis and Running Gear. 1951 4 Door Mercury body with a a 1950 Front End is Chopped and Channeled over 1981 Lincoln Town Car and further customized from a 4 Door Body to a 2 Door Hardtop. Additional custom features include 53 Buick Side Trim, 57 Cadillac Hub Caps, 52 Mercury Headlights and 59 Cadillac Tail Lights. 81 Lincoln Town Car Running Gear includes 302 Cubic Inch V8 with Ford Automatic Transmission. Painted Gloss Black and Red with Red Ostrich Interior.

This is a proven dependable Showcar designed and built to be driven. Proven Dependable this Custom was Driven to and from Modesto CA to Selina, Kansas where it was Awarded The Hall of Fame Award at the KKOA Kustom Kemps Annual Car Show.

Front Buckets, Rear Bench, Door and Interior Panels covered in Red Ostrich. Center Storage Console with Red Ostrich Lid. Red Headliner with Black Carpets and Red Flame Floor Mats. Dash is Custom with Machine Finished Aluminum Dash Panel and VDO Gauges that include Speedometer, Odometer, Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Fuel and Voltage. Tilt Steering Column and Steering Wheel are from1965 Cadillac. Air Controls and Gauge for air shocks. Window Glass is all Clear and in good working order. All Lights and Signals are in working order. No Wipers.




Exterior:

Custom Painted Black Gloss with Red Lower Panel. All Chrome and Trim is Excellent. Trunk is Paneled and Carpeted. Undercarriage is solid with no structural rust. Engine compartment is Clean with Gloss Black Firewall and inner Panels. As stated above this is a Beautiful Classic Custom that not only Looks Great but is built to Drive as Well.

1950 Mercury, fresh build less then 50 miles on car. Car is 95% done, needs minor finishing we have all parts to complete. Car runs and drives as it is, it has a new 351W roller motor w/alum. heads, AOD trans. backing it up. Ford 9" out back w/3.50 gears, custom exhaust with ceramic shorty headers and flow master mufflers exiting out the rear, car sounds awesome.


It has a full custom tube chassis underneath, 4 wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, ride tech air ride on all 4 corners. The car will lay all the way down and still be able to drive. Ride level can be controlled from the inside the car, compressor and tank in the trunk behind custom panels.





The interior is all done in tan, custom back seat, headliner, door panels. Dash is from a 49' Merc, it has classic instrument gauges, Ididit column, Lokar shifter. The front seat is from a 69' T-Bird, full power and it all works. Has power windows, electric door poppers, A/C/Heat/Defrost. Yes the wipers even work, how many chop Merc with wipers running around?




The body is an Antique Collectibles, yes it is fiberglass. The body was taken from an original steel car and you would be hard pressed to know it was fiberglass. A/C makes one of the finest bodies out, look them up on line. The body is chopped 6", channeled, nosed, shaved. All the glass is factory smoked, looks really good with the color of car. Car is painted 1964 T-Bird Black Cherry, base coat clear coat. The bumpers were custom made for the car, the grill is a one of stainless steel. Head lights are HID w/ turn signal built in, the tail lights are 1950 Ford car LED's.



Wheels are steelies w/ beauty rings and spyder caps. The wheels are painted interior color for a contrast and have Cooker wide whites, even wide whites on the rear tires that are hidden by the cruiser skirts.
