1936 Ford - Rick Dore -
Ford’s 1932 Model 18, which became known as “The Deuce,” was America’s first low-priced mass-produced vehicle to offer a V-8. Fifteen-plus years later, this car with the Ford “Flathead” motor became the vehicle of choice to lusty post-war hot rodders.
The tradition continues today as 1930s Ford V-8s are the godfather of American performance. This fact didn’t get past the late Texas collector, John O’Quinn, when he commissioned Arizona’s Rick Dore to build something that would set a new standard.
Based on a Jimmy Smith illustration, Rick’s 1936 “Razmataz” Ford will be auctioned by Bonhams & Butterfields on November 12, 2011 at the Petersen Automotive Museum.
Starting with a ’36 Ford roadster, Rick placed the body on a modified chassis supplied by Total Cost Involved. Ride Technologies air bags sit at all four corners.
With the body in place, the paint was stripped, then sent to California to have some more work done; in particular, John Aiello fashioned the hood while the brass detail were hand-formed by Flynn Millard.
With a modified Duvall windshield and skirts now in place, the Ford was ready for Art Himsl to coat the Ford with a custom blend of candy apple red PPG paint.
Contra Costa Vinyl refinished the seats in a pearl white leather using the same material for the Carson top. All this style is riding on chrome Tru-Spoke wire wheels and Coker wide white walls.
Power comes from the spiritual successor to the Flathead V-8, Chevrolet’s 350 small-block V-8.
Having made its debut at the 2007 SEMA show to great acclaim, this streamlined 1936 Ford hot rod can Razmataz its way to your carport if you have enough bread to make the highest bid at Bonhams.

John O’Quinn’s 1936 Roadster built by Rick Dore
This is John O’Quinn’s 1936 Ford Roadster that was build a few years ago by Rick Dore. John is a laywer and avid collector of cars with a collection of almost 900 cars already.
The car is sitting on a chassis supplied by Total Cost Involved Engineering which was modified to allow the ’36 body to be fitted to it. The suspension was the adjusted to allow the fitment of Air Ride Technologies air bags at each corner.
Inside the car the dashboard and mod-cons are kept to a minimum with the addition of only a few Classic Instrument gauges and the control unit for the air bags. The seats are covered in pearl-white leather by Contra Costa Vinyl who also supplied black Mercedes-style carpets.
The sumptuous paint was sprayed by Art Himsl by mixing a custom candy red and applying a lot of coats! The wheels are chrome Tru-Spoke wire wheels with Coker wide white wall tires on them which are all set off beautifully by the rich paintwork.
The Du-Vall windscreen was manufacturer by by Rick along with the fender-skirts but some of the other work was carried out by external suppliers such as John Aiello. Aiello manufacturer the Carson style roof for the roadster and also performed the detailing around the hood area with the fitment of the Packard grille. The front fenders have also bee stretched, crossing over onto the doors, this give the front a much more fluid look similarly the rear of the car was also adjusted in the same way.
