Quand je pense à facade de commerce je pense à ce trés beau salon de coiffure à Libourne (Gironde) qui a fermé il y a un peu plus de 10 ans et pas miracle n'a toujours pas été masacré.

Katz Drug Store, Kansas City, Missouri




Le Katz Drug store situé sur Westport Road et Main à Kansas City, Missouri. Quand il a été construit était le plus grand durg store du monde. Le bâtiment a été une véritable icône grâce à son néon de chat noir. Aujourd'hui il est nominé pour la conservation des monuments historiques.

When built it was the largest drug store in the world. Katz was one of the first drug companies to create larger stores like prevail today. The stores had iconic neon Black Cat faces as a logo. Children growing up in the Kansas City area were mesmerized by the glowing feline in the 1950s. This building is currently nominated for historic preservation. I sure hope it happens as it has been empty for some time.

The "Vis-O-Matic Order Office, Pembroke, Ontario, Canada 1950.
"A variation on mail-order shopping, the Vis-O-Matic system used color slides to display merchandise to potential customers, with orders placed by Teletype and delivered to your door. The Vis-O-Matic phenomenon seems to have been short-lived, with hardly any documentation online aside from photos in the Life archive, and no word of its fate."

An aging and decaying building that used to be Kohl's Food Emporium on East Washington Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin.

Another relic of Madison's past that is no longer there. Madison evolves so quickly, there are so many photo ops for those who just want to record the city's decaying past.







Old Kohl's food stores are great fun to document, but this one has somewhat more significance than most.

This was the very first Kohl's supermarket building with arch-roofed architecture; built in 1950. According to a 1970 newspaper article, Max Kohl was inspired to adopt this motif for his family chain after observing a Penn Fruit store in Philadelphia.

Unusually for vintage Kohl's stores, this one still houses a supermarket today. The building has been reoccupied by the local Sendik's outfit, which is doing a very good job of keeping the snug property in tidy shape. Almost too well, in fact: I'm not used to seeing carpet inside a food store!
