Some Usonian eye candy with this lovely Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home. Located in Bloomfield Hills near Detroit the 1800 square foot Smith House was designed for Melvyn Maxwell Smith and his wife, Sara. Both high school teachers and being of limited means the Smiths sacrificed and saved the 20,000 dollars necessary to build the home which was completed in 1950. Wright visited the house three times after it was built, declaring it “my little gem" with the Smiths simply referring to it as their 'haven".

Frank Lloyd Wrights Eppstein residence which is located in the heart of The Acres with access to approx 70 acres of private nature preserve like property. Radiant floor heat, cement counters, mahogany trim, a massive kitchen/entry way skylight, 3 additional skylights, 2 wood burning fireplaces and an in ground cement pool set the Eppstein residence apart from the rest. A large fireplace and 10' windows with great views into the valley are focus points of the large living room. The home has undergone an exterior restoration by the Durable Restoration Group. This home and community are registered on the National Register of Historical Places. There are only 5 homes at The Acres all of which are Usonian style homes. Restoration Group

House designed by architect James Evans in 1961 as his own home. The house features a hyperbolic paraboloid roof that allows for a nearly completely open plan as few inner load-carrying supports are necessary.

Ray Crites-designed house that my dad, Waldo Berger, built for the Tucker family in 1961. Some of the features in the house probably wouldn't pass code today, but it's got some cool features. This was Julius Shulman's job 3281.
