During the early 1940s, Tracy was a regular at Ciro's, the famous Sunset Strip nightclub located at 8433 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. In fact every major star of the 40s, 50s and 60s went to Ciro's including George Burns and Gracie Allen, Humphrey Bogart, Joan Crawford, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, and Frank Sinatra to name a few. In late 1940 early 1941 Tracy would sometimes bring his wife Louise to Ciro's but most often he brought along a young starlet. One night he brought Olivia de Havilland, James Stewart's regular date. Another night he brought the 18 year old actress, Judy Garland.
Rumors began to spread that the Tracys would separate, but of course, they never did. Even when Tracy's relationship with Katharine Hepburn got serious, Tracy still remained married to Louise.

The Chalon Mart was huge. It occupied part of the first and second floors of the Los Angeles Home Furnishing Mart. The first floor had a Dining Room, room for small parties called the “French Room”, a Bar adjacent to the Dining Room, a Cigar Shop and a Coffee shop. The second floor had two banquest rooms, the smaller caleed the Los Angeles Room and the larger was the California room and a seond bar next to the Los Angeles Room. There were kitchens on both Floors. The Chalon Manchester also had several different themed dining rooms, a bar and a coffee shop but wasn’t nearly as big as the Mart. There was a third Chalon in Pasedena on Colorado Blvd. The Chalon Manchester was sold in the early 70′s and the Chalon Mart was sold in the late 70′s. The Chalon Pazedena became the La Palapa in the early 80s.
grand nostalgic & beautiful restaurant with a front coffee
shop, 2 dinning rooms a large bar with cocktail room as pictured & large
kitchen. A flowing rock waterfall fountain with gold fish is to the lower
left of the car service sign in the picture. Chalon was located at 1455 W.
Manchester Blvd. in Inglewood, CA. I remember it well in my younger years.
There was a man named Chuck that played a piano in front of the rock wall
in the bottom picture. Chuck would play a cute little piano riff with a
robotic kitty with pink light up eyes that would walk on the bar top.
Pretty cool stuff back in the mid 1960’s. I would hang around there for
many hours and look foreword to the best spaghetti dinner I can remember. I
was there a lot as this restaurant belonged to my grandfather, Armand
Devigne & his wife Eudoxie. My father Rene’ Devigne was manager for many
years as Armand & my uncle, Ray Gahagan managed the Chalon Restaurant #2,
located on the 2 lower floors of the Los Angeles Home Furnishings Mart. The
3rd ‘Armand Devigne's Chalon’ opened in the late 1970’s on Colorado Blvd in
Pasadena and was reminiscent of the Chalon in these pictures, and very
close in size with 3 dining rooms. The pictured building has been gone for
some time now, but the other 2 are still standing but not now a Chalon
Restaurant. It dose my hart good to see the Chalon remembered here on
Flicker and I hope this little bit of history adds to it for Restaurant Buffs.
Steve Devigne

The Gobbler Restaurant & Motel in Johnson Creek
Someone please save This GEM!
The Gobbler Restaurant & Motel in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin was designed by architect Helmut Ajango for local poultry processor Clarence Hartwig and opened in 1967. The menu featured turkey, prime rib and steak. A rotating circular bar that completed one revolution every 80 minutes was a signature centerpiece of the building.
in later years, the business struggled and Clyde Hartwig closed operations by 1995. After the Hartwig family sold the property, several restaurants were opened but ultimately failed because the owners had no experience as restaurateurs.
The legendary supper club remains, but the motel was burned (because of structural wood rot) as a fire department training exercise in 2001. The last tenant went out of business in mid-2002. In 2011, the locally produced film “Missed Connections” was shot on location at the restaurant.
The property is currently listed for a $2.3 million
