Re: 1949 Chevy Styline Deluxe - Cyaneyed - Circle city hot rods - Chris Broders
Chris Broders’ ’49 Chevy has a paint job that can be described as Watson-esque, and this article describes in detail the elaborate paint job done by Jon “Harpoon” Haprov with pinstriping by Dennis Ricklefs along with the decisions made by Jon and Chris that led to the overall aesthetics. The custom bodywork and modifications were completed at Circle City Hot Rods in Orange, California and George Ramirez completed the interior in true Tijuana style. In this issue you can read how these efforts combined to complete this stunningly mild custom.

Chris Broder’s ’49 Chevy Styleline DeLuxe Impresses
Everything about Chris Broder’s ’49 Chev is genuine, period perfection. From the Watson-esque paneled paint to the Olds spinner caps, this Chevy is a rolling tribute to old school 60’s customs. Joyrides recently spotlighted the car and the talented cast of characters that brought Broder’s vision to life.
Built by Circle City Hot Rods of Orange, California, the car’s running a Lanny Broders built Stovebolt 235 CID six and a three speed manual gearbox. The slightly lowered ride height is provided by a C-notched frame and Jamco suspension bits.
The body’s been treated to a shave and very subtle restyling of the grille and taillights creating the perfect canvas for the custom paneled paint scheme. Sprayed by Jon “Harpoon” Haprov and striped by Dennis Ricklefs, the wild Watson style paint adds just enough bling to offset the stock roofline.
Inside, George Ramirez stitched the seats, headliner and trunk in true Tijuana style with white and blue pleated vinyl. A striped dash and a sprinkling a chrome finish out the interior.
We’re not the only ones that think this cruiser is a pitch perfect homage to old school cool. The judges at the 2011 Grand National Roadster Show bestowed Broder’s Chevy with the coveted West Coast Kustom Award.

Re: 1949 Chevy Styline Deluxe - Cyaneyed - Circle city hot rods - Chris Broders
Cyaneyed hit the newstands this weekend in the Rodders Journal. The cover features two amazing hot rods. Ryan's subtle, smooth, and slammed 37. and the Take-Out T show rod from the great state of Washington. This was an AMBR contender, and if the dudes who built it want some real RadEr's-hit me up i know where there may be a few.
In my teenage years, somewhere around 95-96, I was reading alot of two magazines, Custom Rodder and Rod n Custom. What was going on in them was so different from everything else you would see at a car show(Thank God my parents would take me to those). One of the most impactful articles was done by Thom Taylor about Larry Watson. This was it for me. I wanted to do that. I knew I could but didnt know I'd double my age by the time it happend. Haha.
Well it did, and the first thing i did was take that Rodders Journal over to show my mom and dad. This was the goal, to make the Rodders Journal. The best magazine there is. Im just glad that another client came along to go all the way with a project like this. That, and Larry Watson got to see it and give his approval, not to mention the Pete Santini school of kustom painting that I went through in the process. Pete is the man. Then of course there is all the work done by Circle City Hot Rods to build this car-just look at those bumpers!!!
