1953 Morris Minor
If you're looking for a head turner you're looking at the right car. A 1953 split screen Morris Minor with a difference. Is it american ? Is it British ? many are often surprised to find out it a wee Morris Minor.
It's a beautiful wee car. I bought the car pre-chopped a little over 6 years ago and spent the next 3 years or so building it to where it is now.... the woman and kids interrupting the build at times. However if you're interested the build up thread is on rodsnsods or torquedup .
Now for a wee bit of detail
The colour is Fiat Italia verde and is definitely a head turner! love it or hate it certainly raises a few eyebrows. When polished the colour and shine enhances every line and curve created.
Modification! If you like a smooth , curvy body and big rear end then you'll love this one. The "cleavage" is a mark 1 zephyr grill which is encased within the frenched, extended headlamps. Following from there your eye is then drawn up to the reworked bonnet with a neat single line finish. The split screen with the modest 6 inch roof chop and slanted B posts brings some extra kerb appeal. Allowing flow to the body each panel has been smoothed and de-seamed with the door lines extended and rear wings both extended and lowered. Continuing on to the sumptuous booty which has not only been extended but seen the removal of the number plate for a smooth and neat finish.
I'd love to be able to take credit for the interior, but lets just say I'm not a needle and thread kinda guy. I've had Morris minor seats and door cards professionally reupholstered in white with a striking black pinstripe. Smooth headlining and plush carpet professionally fitted with matching leather seams around the gear box add the little finishing touch.
In addition the the front seat frames have been lowered an inch to give better head clearance and comfortable ride. Steer in style with the original steering wheel an early triumph centre with advance and retard, to give an older american feel.
The "heart" a 1098 A series engine with a stage two head from mini sport, a bigger carb, a bigger cam, and a big bore exhaust... well, apparently size matters. she breathes through a K&N filter, gets her spark from the high output coil and electronic ignition.
Running gear fitted with a ford sierra 5 speed box mated to a modified prop engineered and balanced by Morris Minor Birmingham which fits nicely on to the 1970 Morris Minor axle. Although standard has certainly racked up motorway mileage throughout the UK.
