This is a very radical 1958 Buick with a severely chopped hardtop inspired by the work of George Barris.The metallic green paint is set off by a multitude of scallops on the hood, top, sides and trunk. Spinner hubcaps and spotlights were the "in" things. Custom grille and leaded-in seams smooth out the lines.Removal of hood ornaments, door handles and side trim all contributed to the smooth look. Radiused rear wheel wells, extreme lowering and special side pipes complete the effect.

Another '58 Buick which stresses the extreme. In this case, the tail fins. A 1959 Cadillac has really nothing to brag about compared to these. The car looks sort of like a Batmobile, but this actually wasn't even a consideration at that time. Maybe it was in a sub-conscious way, though? What was probably on our minds was, more or less, a "pimp ride". Notice the antenni above the headlights. Hood scoop is molded in. The round tail lights are frenched into the rear end. Moon discs, contemporary spotlights and Corvette-like side coves to correspond to the side trim finish off this convertible land yacht.

A 1932 Ford Five-Window Coupe with a chopped top and Chyrsler Imperial grille, I believe. This model is a personal favorite. Widened rear fenders, molded-in grille, Corvette engine, rear slicks, custom straight pipes, spoke wheels up front and mags on the back, and candy apple red paint- what more could you ask for in a vintage custom street rod?
