1978 Cutlass Supreme 2 Door Hardtop Coupe Custom Lowrider built by Gas Monkey Garage on this week’s episode of Fast N’ Loud with 52,942 original miles. The Cutlass Supreme first appeared in 1966, the first year of GM's new intermediate sedan. In addition to the new body style, the Supreme featured a plusher interior that included a notchback bench seat with armrest, full wheel covers and deluxe door panels among other items.The Cutlass Supreme was downsized for 1978, along with the rest of the Cutlass line. Now, when I found this excellent example built at the Lansing Michigan plant with the 260 V-8, automatic transmission and A/C, I knew I had to act quickly to secure it for the shop. This car was super clean when it arrived here and at first Aaron and I weren’t sure exactly what to do with it. That’s when I started brainstorming and thoughts of a Pro Touring or Drag Car quickly faded as it was apparent this Cutlass Supreme was destined to become the “Cut Dawg” lowrider you see here! When you start with such a clean and solid vehicle as this 1978 Cutlass Supreme the build can focus on your vision of a Kick Ass custom lowrider instead of the restoration process, which is exactly what we accomplished here! With the original 260 V8 2 BBL and automatic transmission in great shape we simply cleaned things up a bit under the hood with the addition of some tasteful chrome trim items (see all pics) and an upgraded 300 Amp Alternator to power everything. The interior is in phenomenal original condition with well-preserved seats, door panels, headliner, dash and carpeting. With cold A/C and everything working as it should we simply decided to install a Kick Ass Alpine stereo system with 4 X 2 way speakers and a Sub-Woofer as well! The focus was directed to the suspension upgrades which, as we all know is the one thing any respectable Lowrider must have! Aaron wanted the function and appearance of a traditional Lowrider but not the harsh ride, so a custom one off system was manufactured here in the shop utilizing a hybrid coil and hydraulic system consisting of components from Hydroholics, AccuAir, Wilk Worx and Ridetech. Aaron fabricated the unique suspension system to allow for ride height adjustment with hydraulics and a smooth ride from the coil over system making this a one of a kind setup! To complete the “look” we laid down a sick paint job with unique graphics, pin stripping and some gold leaf and a set of “Supremes” by US Wheels!
