1953 Hansen Cobra

Though listed as a "1953 Unspecified" on Hemmings.com, I was able to turn up a little bit more about this fiberglass-bodied roadster built by brothers Wally and Harry Hansen of Inglewood, California. Commonly called the Hansen Cobra, they only built two such examples: this one, for sale out of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, for $75,000; and another in the Petersen Automotive Museum that Geoff Hacker spotted on a recent trip to Southern California. One of the two also appeared in the 1959 movie Roadracers, which featured the tagline "Screeching Hell on Wheels ... is it Sport or Murder?!" From the seller's description:


One of two 2-door fiberglass sport roadsters built in 1953 by Wally & Harry Hansen (Inglewood CA) from molds they handcrafted (other is in a CA museum). Car is titled as 1953 Cadillac & has a standard shift, 1953 Cadillac engine, 1948 Lincoln gearbox, Lincoln brakes, 1953 Studebaker bumpers & license plate housing, 1953 Chevy grille, 1953 Chevy headlight rims & taillight assemblies, 108" wheelbase, V8 331 CI engine, 4 barrel carb, chrome air scoops on 1/4 panel fronts, new wide white walls, 1953 Olds spinner hubcaps, working radio. Newly painted by premier body shop (white w/red inserts). Non-original Cadillac steering wheel. Original interior & chrome. Engine compartment, wheel wells, some undercarriage detailed w/paint. Original Lion Dragstrip decal on windshield. Shocks & shackles replaced. Car is in excellent condition-runs,shifts,rides well. Included are 1955 Motor Trend w/this car in centerfold, GM test report, Beverly Hills car cover. Includes display card from Domino's Museum, which displayed this car.
