1963 OLDSMOBILE STARFIRE CUSTOM - Starstruck - Richard Zocchi
Award-winning '63 Oldsmobile starfire custom "Starstruck" built by Richard Zocchi. Built in the San Fransisco area by some of the best custom builders ever. Richard Zocchi has best been known for his gorgeous eye-catching creations have won countless prestigious awards at all the major West Coast car shows based on excellence in design. This particular masterpiece has won awards all over North America including the Sam Barris memorial trophy (Recognizes best use of metal and paint on an all-metal car, Sam Barris excelled in metal work). Car has been pictured in many magazines and has also been featured in a Dennis Gage video. Vehicles underside of trunk has been signed by a stream of custom godfathers: Frank De Rosa, Gene Winfield, John d'Agostino, George Barris, etc. Here's a chance to own a great piece of hot rod history by a legendary builder. This car started a very straight, rust free car with only 53,000 miles. This rare find is powered by the stock 394cu.in. V-8 hooked to a automatic transmission. This car was completely stripped down to the basics. All the trim and door handles were shaved and both the front and rear fenders were reworked to blend in with the flush bumpers that were reset an inch lower. The bumpers were narrowed, shaved, and molded out before being re-chromed. The top was dropped 4 inches, resetting it square to its original positioning. The trim that topped of the fenders and doors was removed in this shaving process, then this line was reset with a section of round rod that was molded in. On the rear fender, this line was lifted one inch to accent the body line and give the Olds a little more fin. The effect of this uplifting gives this section of the car a sharper look, in keeping with the squareness of the car's overall design. The rockers were opened out and replaced with '59 Thunderbird panels for a fatter lower line. These new rockers appear to lower the body without lowering the car, which means that when the air-suspended suspension is set to its lowest setting, the Olds looks like it's slammed on the ground. To get the chopped Olds sitting just right, the undercarriage needed to be revamped, too. Richard had a the frame C'd at the rear, and the front suspension was outfitted with reworked A-arms. The Springs were replaced with Air Ride Technologies airbags with the pump mounted in the trunk and controlled from the dash. The paint was shot on the 2 tone House of Kolor Lavender with scallops and a white side stripe. After the body and paint work was finished, the trim work started. Installed was a '57 Chrysler Imperial quad headlights behind the custom 1/2-inch rectangular bar grille that was hand built. The door and trunk opening is now handled by an Unkl Al's remote door-opening system. Rolling stock is a set of chromed, triple-laced 15x7 Roadster wire wheels, which are capped with wide whitewall Coker tires. With the top whacked down 4 inches, all of the glass had to be redone and remounted. They worked magic with this job, which was complex and needed great care and attention. The interior makeover is a complete package from the parcel shelf to the headliner, dash, seats, and carpet. A full-length console runs from the perfectly restored dash to the back seat. Seats were covered with a smart combination of lavender tweed and white vinyl. "Starstruck" was introduced at the 1998 Grand National Roadster Show in San Francisco after eight months in construction. There it took First Place in Radical Custom Hardtop, which in custom-building achievements, is a perfect 10. This car is so very unique and is being offered at a fraction of what this would cost to build. Car is very drivable and would be the talk of any car show it showed up at.
