Ford 1952 - 1954 custom & mild custom

The Ford Crestline included the hardtop version of this car style, and it was called the Victoria. The Sunline was the convertible top version. A Kustom Kemp is a slang word used by teenagers in the late 50's and early 60's to indicate a highly "Kustomized" car or truck. The word "Kemp" gained popularity from a national TV show called 77 Sunset Strip, where Edd "Kookie" Byrnes used the word often.




This Victoria's picture could be in the dictionary under the word "Kemp" as it is the fine example of the "Kustom Kemp" movement. Everything about this car says, or should I say screams, CUSTOM! A rolling jukebox, with an homage to a craps game, and a bit of 50's diner thrown in for fun, put this into the category of rolling art.


Exterior
A slammed, nosed, shaved, decked, peaked, piped, Victoria that has seen many an hour of customization, is dripping in Violent Purple Metallic. A custom padded cream vinyl top was added on to a chopped pillar line and includes a diamond rear window. Felix the cat-like tail lights, and rocker neon lighting, along with simplified headlights, with ultra kewl bezels create the night mood for this vehicle. A new grille with its horizontal metal spacers, just evokes and emulates a huge smile. Spot lights are seen on each side in front of the doors and serve as actuators for the doors (look MA! No handles...)

Interior
A quick press of D-4 and the interior is rockkin'! Actually, without this it is rockkin, with a dash mounted Juke Box totally replacing the original speedo space. Below the custom wood grained 3 spoke steering wheel, is your speedo, and mileage ticker. A veneered top center console runs from stem to stern internally and is flanked by stitched vertical paneled white vinyl. This motif carries through the buckets, as well as the door panels, which all make use of the vertical stitching and red piping. A gauge cluster is mounted into the veneered transition between the floor console and the dash. The remainder of the dash is candy apple red with pinstriped flourishes, a "Heart Aches" reminder and lots of chrome accenting, as well as dice knobs. A rear bench is flanked by two throw pillows, and the back seats are soft and supple, when sitting in them I feel like I need a remote in my hand! Total living room feel. Consigner states that air is installed, but not currently hooked up.

Drivetrain
A 460ci V8 Lincoln mill replaces the original engine and is topped by an Edelbrock manifold and carb setup. This is backed up by a bolted-on C-6 automatic tranny, as well as a 9-inch rear sporting posi-traction. Exhaling is through custom dual exhausts. Manual steering, and manual front disc brakes, and rear drum brakes, and enclosed in 4 pristine fatties on each corner are seen.

"I remember when rock was young" comes to mind with this truly beautifully crafted Kustom Kemp. Everything about this car makes me want to throw myself backwards in time, get behind the wheel, pile some friends in with me dressed in our 50's finery, and go for a long cruise...momma needs a new pair of shoes, as we blow into our hands on our dice.

This custom has a smooth and rounded hood, 1953 Chevy grill shell, 1955 Chrysler grill bar, 1955 Plymouth front bumper, 1955 Pontiac rear bumper, Frenched head lights, Electric doors, 3 1/2" chopped top, 1948 Chrysler back glass, Molded rear gravel pan, 302 Ford engine, C4 Automatic transmission, 8" Ford rear end, Modified dash and tilt steering wheel, brand new stereo system, 1951 Mercury fender skirts and a Mustang front end.

Car was restored in 1999 as a 50’s custom
