Laurence Gartel is known as the father of digital art. His work has been displayed in many places, including the Museum of Modern Art. Thankfully for the automotive world, one of his favorite canvases is cars. He’s created art wraps for everything from a Rolls-Royce to a Tesla, using classic cars to represent classic American life.

Born and raised in New York City, Mr. Gartel had the opportunity to teach Andy Warhol how to use the Amiga Computer. He went to the School of Visual Arts, with fellow art student graffiti artist Keith Haring, where he earned his BFA degree majoring in Graphics. He started his electronic career working side by side with Nam June Paik at Media Study/Buffalo in upstate New York.

Gartel’s well-received “Auto-Motion” Exhibition was catalogued with a luxury-class book of the same name, followed by his “Supercars” series. “Auto Motion” continues screening on BBC big screens across Britain, Australia, and around the globe. A fixture in the luxury car event circuit, Gartel appeared in the 2012 character driven film Fireball Run: “Northern Exposure” and its “Live Streaming Event.” As special invited guest-star, Gartel is honored to support the charitable contributions of this event to sponsoring and finding missing children.

MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this piece of American fine art on wheels with the authentic Laurence Gartel 1956 Cadillac Sedan Deville four door hardtop that you see pictured. This awesome caddy had previously been owned by its Florida owner since 2005. It is an extremely straight and solid car under its wrapping. All the chrome and bright work is straight and shows no major defects, pitting or rust. Starting in 2011 Laurence Gartel began designing one of a kind digital car wraps for a select collection of cars. He has been commissioned for unique art by Telsa and Absolute Vodka to name a few. This 1956 Cadillac dubbed as "The Love Car" was chosen personally by Laurence for his 2013 appearance of "Gartel Art Cars" at the NYC International Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Center on March 29th 2013.

Finished in automotive vinyl, the exterior was designed and hand installed by Laurence Gartel at The Creative Workshop in Dania Beach, Florida. The vinyl is extremely high grade and adheres very well to all the curves and shapes of the Cadillac. Underneath the vinyl is the original Goddess Gold and Alpine White paint. The vinyl is designed with psychedelic swirls and infinite detail. The color popping Cadillac created by Laurence Gartel sticks out amongst all the vintage automobiles on the road. Painted with cherubs, hearts, roses and an odd bit of zebra print here and there, the car "gives this beautiful feeling of love and passion," Gartel said. On the back of the car, printed in large flowy script, is an excerpt from William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. How often is it that you pull behind a car and get a romantic story?



While the car can be appreciated by all, the price tag of Gartel's work is steep. Commissioning him to stylize a vehicle costs upwards of $20,000! This unique Cadillac would be perfect car for a wedding limo service or park it in front of your business and watch the patrons flock to the door!



Inside, you’ll see the interior is vastly original and in overall good shape. The seats are the original trim option #44 patterned white and gold and are in good shape, but of course show some wear due to their age and originality. All gauges, horn, and blinkers are in working order except the fuel gauge and the wipers. The rarely seen rear factory AC works and blows but the air is not cold and most likely in need of a charge.



Under the hood, you’ll find the 365-CID engine with 4-barrel carburetor matched with a 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The engine bay is clean and tidy but mostly still original, with factory power steering, power brakes and factory AC.

We’ve got to give some props to former HOT ROD editor and generally off-center personality Terry Cook [shown above] for coming up with yet another in an amazing string of one-off contemporary classics. These Cook cars are not kits, but one-off custom-bodied creations. Terry started with his chopped and customized “Scrape” Lincoln Zephyr coupe years ago, and moved on to numerous pseudo-classic cars, culminating in this Type 57S Bugatti-ish fastback he calls the Pacific. He’s also done a convertible version he calls the Bella Figura. Much larger than a real 57 Bug, it’s also nicer and much faster with a contemporary V-12 BMW engine and trans combo. Says Terry, “They’re a collective work of art, rolling sculpture respecting the traditional Bugatti look and feel. To build an exact replica is boring—this is about our all-consuming passion for the classis Bugatti design.” Terry sounds like he’s schooled in prose—oh wait, he is, he was our esteemed editor back in the day. en fait, de ce que je m'en rappelle avoir lu, c'est un mécano de l'USAAF qui avait le projet de se reconvertir en rentrant au pays; sachant le potentiel qu'avait la Jeep et surtout des stock en disponibilité.
il a eu cette idée et l'a réalisée alors qu'il était encore en service
