1930's Chevy hot rod

Message  Predicta le Mar 22 Jan - 23:06

Duane Gann, a 71-year-old hot rodder living in Prescott, Arizona, spotted this ’31 Chevy truck for sale in a gas station in the small town of Hope. If you try and find Hope on a map, you’ll see it is conveniently placed in the middle of nowhere in the Arizona desert, about halfway between Phoenix and the California border.

One of the things that separate this truck from most any other you’ll see is the choice of drivetrain used. The 71-year-old owner, Duane Gann, installed this 3.6L, direct-injection V-6 himself in his backyard garage. The motor came out of an ’09 Cadillac CTS and Duane used the 6L80 transmission that came with it.There’s an RV park, one antique store, and only one gas station (Shell) and not much else, unless you count the “You’re Now Beyond Hope” sign when you’re leaving the tiny town.

Doing some research, Duane was able to find the truck had been built in Ohio several years ago, but he had decided to update the front suspension with a Mustang II setup with QA1 coilover shocks, a power rack-and-pinion, and disc brakes.

1931 Chevrolet Pick up

Message  Predicta le Mar 22 Jan - 23:07

New upholstery was also in order, and Duane had champagne-colored leather installed on the bench seat as well as the door panels. A wooden gauge panel with five gold-ringed VDO gauges is centered on the dash, and a three-spoke, wood-ringed steering wheel is bolted to a tilt column. Tan square-weave carpet is used and complements the leather used on the center console.

You don’t see a lot of ’30s-era Chevy pickups running around, but you probably won’t see another one powered by what Duane chose for his ride: a 3.6L, direct-injection V-6 out of an ’09 Cadillac STS. He found the engine, which had only 15 miles on it, at Spaulding Motors in Spokane, Washington, and installed it himself in his backyard garage.

Duane calls his truck “Penny” due to the copper hue in the paintjob. He found the truck for sale a few years ago at a Shell gas station in a tiny town in Arizona and brought it home.He also installed the transmission that came with the engine (a 6L80 six-speed overdrive) as well as the computer-controlled drive-by-wire system and the tap-down/tap-up shifter that allows Duane to switch between automatic and manual shifting when desired. Other goodies include a custom aluminum radiator from Mattsons and chrome wheels shod in Coker wide whites.

Duane calls his truck “Penny” due to the color, which has a definite copper hue. Over the back fender Duane had the “Coolville Speed Shop” lettered on the bed, and he plans to take it to the Goodguys show in Del Mar and on the STREET RODDER Road Tour when it goes from Vintage Air to Bowling Green in 2012.

1937 Chevrolet truck rat rod. This is the short cab version and is a very solid truck. The grill shell, cab, hood, and bed are steel. The fenders and running boards are nice quality fiberglass. The truck sits in hot rod black primer with "Wooward Speed Shop" graphics on the doors. The graphics have been done in vinyl and can be easily removed. This truck has a newer Camaro sub frame and disc brakes up front with a power assist master cylinder. The 350 engine and 350 turbo trans have been rebuilt but the truck has not been run in last 6 months. The radiator is cooled with an electric fan. The exhaust dumps at the front of the cab through Lake Style headers. The interior has a bench seat and tilt steering column with a upper console with a radio. The truck currently needs to have gauges and wiring installed and brake lines plumbed to be ready for the road.

1935 CHEVROLET Standard Street Hot Rod Custom 2 Door

Message  Predicta le Sam 30 Mar - 19:16

Show car quality 1935 Chevrolet Standard 2 Door Sedan Hot Rod.
The quality of this car is amazing! It is nicely rebuilt (took 12 years) to the last little detail in a stunning quality I have seldom seen! It is comparable to cars beyond the $100k price range from famous builders we all know well. This street rod is finished in mirror straight black lacquer paint, has a green clean frame with blue Wheel Smith wire wheels and matching green blue pinstripe artwork of its best! (performed by West Coast Auto Craft - builder of goodguys showcard and jay leno's stainless cobras)

Now a few words to the engine and drivetrain of this car:
350 Chevy small block engine from a 76-78 Corvette with a 350Turbo 3 speed Transmission are perfectly integrated in the original chassis of the car.

Ford 8" rear-end on coil over shocks and a Mustang II front-end. Power boosted front Disc Brakes, rear Drum Brakes have just been reworked and replaced! The car has a Vintage Air AC and Heater Radio CD player with 4 Speakers and MP3 input, all 4 windows (also the back) roll down smoothly. Floor-shifter and Hand-break in the Cab.

All lights, gauges and cruise control works at its best. As you can see in the pictures there is a Leather bench seat and a storage compartment in the back. The whole interior is Leather and tweed in a superior workmanship quality.

1934 Chopped Hot Rod Rat Rod Custom Salt Flats Racecar

Message  Predicta le Dim 31 Mar - 22:12

1934 Chevy Master coupe. This car is a 5 window coupe that was chopped by a hot rod shop some years ago. The Chop is 6 inches and has been gas welded and relief cut all the way around. The chop is in my opinion very tradition and the geometry lines up perfect. This car has been fully braced with steel tubing and has no bondo or filler on the car at all. What you see is exactly what you get.

It really is an amazing tradition style hot rod, some refer to as rat rod, but it was kept as traditional to the early 60s as i could. I spared no expense on rare parts such as the original valve covers, brand new strombergs, maund speed parts, race built 409, brand new fully built m22 muncie close ratio gears, 40 juice brakes, 38 taillights, fully built columbia two speed rear axle, aftermarket George Barris 36 rear bones, and on and on and on. Ill list the parts below, but just so you know the most impressive part of this car is the motor trans and axle. The motor was built by drag racing champion Danny Rosland. Danny took this motor completely apart and built the entire thing with an iskandarian cam, forged pistons, turned the crank, rebuilt the heads, ported polished honed and bored over. This motor is brand new and a screamer. I am most proud of the engine and the M22 Muncie close ratio rock crusher transmission which was fully rebuilt with brand new m22 gears. The rear columbia two speed was built by a columbia two speed guru from seattle who passed away and his brother sold me this built axle. I know the old timers and everyone says ohh that thing will brake with that motor! but guess what ive got 500+ hp and it hold up like a beast! ive invested over 25,000 in parts and professionally restored parts and new parts for this car.

Every car show i have taken this car two it has either won a trophy or ended up in a magazine. It was in Rod and Kustom, Hot Rod Deluxe, and Rolls and Pleets...

Youre not going to ever see another car just like this one.

1931 Chevy Vicky 70's HOT ROD MAGAZINE

Message  Predicta le Jeu 3 Avr - 14:46

1931 Chevrolet Hot Rod

“Vicky” five-passenger coupe

Investment Museum Quality Collector Car

1967 283CI with a 1964 Factory Rochester Corvette Fuel Injection

This is quality build that can be a center piece to your collection or museum. This 31 Chevrolet 5 passenger-coupe is a time capsule that was built in the 70’s and looks like it was built yesterday! No exaggeration here....this car seriously looks like it was just nut and bolt frame-off restored. This is the kind of car you can search your whole life for, it is museum caliber, top collector worthy and a definite investment grade car, with an amazing amount of provenance.

Built by the legendary Orv Elgie with the idea to build ”something different in SoCal and a Chevy would be just that and unusual”. Orv Elgie has built some of Hot Rodding’s greats including the famed ’37 Ford “Family Plan Panel” that won just about every award including “Best Appearing Car” at the first Street Rod Nationals held in Peoria. This 31 Chevrolet was featured on the Cover of Rod and Custom Magazine in Feb. 1974. It was also featured in a separate issue of Hot Rod Magazine in 1974 and again in Popular Hot Rodding. It then disappeared into a shipping container for decades before resurfacing in 2011, in the same condition it was last shown in. Its story can be found in the book LOST Hot Rods II by Pat Ganahl

“Pius arrived in his truck in a cloud of dust, introduced himself, then went over to unlock the big double doors of a metal container...

when he opened it, I was amazed. There was Orv Elgie’s 1931 five-passenger coupe looking just as good as it did in September 1974 issue of Hot Rod.

Gray Baskervlle did one of his hallmark comparison tests between it (this 31 Vicky) and Wayne Henderson’s black 1931 Ford Victoria in that issue.

...Pius told me he traded four vehicles, plus cash for it.” -Lost Hot Rods II by Pat Ganahl

It's not just its immense history that make this Hot Rod stand out from the crowd, it is also it's build components. First and foremost is that it is a rare '31 Chevrolet 5 passenger car, then it is powered by an actual 1967 283Ci engine with Factory 1964 Rochester Fuel Injection that in-itself is worth a pretty penny to a Corvette collector. Also we will breakdown a few of the highlights below:

Stats:

1967 Corvette 283 CI
With a 1964 Factory Rochester Corvette Fuel Injection
Turbo 350 automatic
Stock Frame Boxed and Strenghtened
Custom Elgie engineered Air Conditioning system
1966 Corvette Disc Brakes
Armstrong Shocks
Modified 56 Chrysler Wheels
31 Axle Dropped 2 inches narrowed 2 1/2 inches
67 Nova Rear-End
3.36 R&P Ratio
Monroe tubes
Painted Gold Glow exterior and ginger fenders
Hand built Wood Dash
S-W gauges
Brown Naugahyde Seats
Mohair Headliner
Nylon Rugs
66 Caprice tilt and telescopic Steering Wheel

Comes with:

The Book Lost Hot Rods II by Pat Ganahl
September 1974 Issue of Hot Rod Magazine featuring the Vicky in the article “Tricky Vicks” by Gray Baskerville
Rochester Fuel Injection Service Manual
Actual Photographs of the 1970's Frame-off Build
Cover of Rod and Custom Magazine featuring the 31

Condition: This 1931 5 passenger “Vicky” is a professional frame-off, authentic 1970’s build that looks like it was finished yesterday. Extremely smooth and reliable driving car that reportedly has about 12,000 miles on her since she was re-built in the 70’s.

31 History:

Victorias are a rare find with many people of the era unable to afford this pricer model. The “little bustle in the back” separates them. Of the 17 body styles offered in 1930, the Model A’s third season, five were completely new. These included a Deluxe Phaeton, a Deluxe Roadster with sporty canted windshield and lower top profile, a two-window Deluxe Forder with blind rear quarters, a Deluxe Coupe with upscale interior and a close-coupled two-door sedan called “Victoria.” Of these, the Victoria was the most noteworthy, heralding a number of styling features that would find wider use in 1931.

Built with extra-wide doors for ease of entry, the Victoria had folding front seats for access to the roomy rear seat. Behind the rear seat was luggage space, provided by adding a pleasing “bustle” to the car’s rear contour. Introduced in November 1930, it had a visor-less slanted windshield and a lowered steering column, similar to that in the Deluxe Phaeton. Cars were available in two roof styles, with steel rear quarters or with a full padded fabric cover. Interior fabrics were either brown Bedford cord or striped tan broadcloth. -boldride.com
